Everyone remembers their first time. Walking into a spa for the first time feels a little like walking into a fancy restaurant where you don't know which fork to use. Is there a dress code? Do you tip? Do you talk during the massage? What if you fall asleep and snore? (Spoiler: people do. It's fine. It's actually a compliment to the therapist.)
If you've never been to a spa before, this guide covers literally everything — from the moment you book to the moment you walk out feeling like a different human.
Before You Arrive
How to book: WhatsApp +91 9399075318. Say what treatment you want, preferred date/time, and number of people. Meraki Spa responds within minutes to confirm. You can also walk in, but booking ahead guarantees your slot.
What to wear: Wear comfortable, loose clothes. You'll change into a disposable undergarment (provided) and lie under a sheet or towel on the massage table. The therapist only uncovers the area they're working on — you're draped the entire time. Modesty is always respected.
When to arrive: 10 minutes early. This gives you time to fill a brief health form, use the restroom, and settle in without rushing.
What to eat: Don't arrive on a full stomach — light meal 1-2 hours before is ideal. Don't arrive starving either — your stomach growling during a massage is distracting.
During the Massage
The therapist will leave the room while you undress and lie down on the table (face up or face down, depending on the treatment). You'll be covered with a sheet or towel. When the therapist knocks and enters, the session begins.
Should you talk? Some people chat. Most stay quiet and relax. There's no wrong answer. The therapist will check in occasionally — "Is the pressure okay?" "Are you comfortable?" — but otherwise let the experience flow. If something hurts or feels uncomfortable, SAY SO immediately. The therapist can't read your mind. Good pressure feels like "productive discomfort." Bad pressure feels like actual pain. There's a difference.
What about [awkward things]? Yes, your stomach might gurgle (digestion doesn't pause for massages). Yes, you might fall asleep and drool slightly (therapists have seen everything — they don't care). Yes, you might get emotional (massage releases stored tension, and sometimes that tension was holding back feelings). All of this is normal. All of this is fine.
How much pressure? The standard answer: "Medium pressure" is safe. "Firm" if you have specific tension to work out. "Light" if you're just here to relax. You can change your mind mid-session — just tell the therapist.
After the Massage
The therapist will leave the room. Take your time getting up — you might feel slightly lightheaded (normal). Drink the water provided — hydration helps flush out metabolic waste released during the massage. Don't jump up and rush out. Give yourself 5 minutes to exist in that post-massage calm.
Tipping: Not mandatory in India, but appreciated. ₹100-300 is standard if you had a great experience. Tip directly to the therapist or at reception.
Post-massage effects: You might feel sleepy (massage activates the parasympathetic nervous system). You might feel slightly sore the next day (like after a workout — normal for deep tissue). You will almost certainly sleep better tonight. Drink extra water for 24 hours. Avoid heavy exercise immediately after. Enjoy the calm — it lasts 24-48 hours.
